$80.00

November 20, 2025 - 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM  EST

Live Webinar

Instructors: Dr. Meredith Tise and Dr. Kyra Stull, Forensic Anthropologists

This 3-hour live webinar provides crime scene personnel and forensic professionals with a practical and scientific overview of the challenges involved in the search and recovery of human remains in fire scenes. Topics include scene assessment, fire behavior, documentation, recognition of burned or fragmentary remains, recovery techniques, and collaborative approaches. Emphasis will be placed on real-world application through case examples and investigative strategies relevant to both structural fires and outdoor burn scenes. Additional discussion will be provided on the search and recovery of human remains in mass disaster scenes, such as large-scale forest and residential fires.

Topics Covered:

1. Introduction and Scene Types

2. Effects of Fire and Search Methods

3. Identifying Human Remains Altered by Fire

4. Search and Recovery Techniques in Burned Environments

5. Documentation and Evidence Handling of the Scene and Deceased

6. Safety and Access to the Scene

5. Case Studies (Crime Scenes and Mass Disaster Scenarios)

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to recognize the effects of fire on human remains and associated materials, describe systematic methods for locating and recovering human remains in fire scenes, and apply scene documentation and recovery techniques specific to burned environments.  Through case studies and practical examples, attendees will understand the roles of death investigators, forensic anthropologists, crime scene investigators, search/rescue teams, and fire personnel in interdisciplinary recovery efforts.
